New England Colonial Series at Nantucket
Nantucket, Massachusetts
1.5K swim, 40K bike, 10K run
The Nantucket International Distance Triathlon begins at Jetties Beach on Nantucket. The ocean swim is a rectangular course off a wide sandy beach. The average water temperature in late September is 68 degrees. The bicycle route circumnavigates almost the entire island on roads that are flat and fast (see elevation profile). The run segment heads west toward the less populated section of the island. Nantucket evolved from a small 17th -century farming community to become the capital of the American whaling industry in the 18th and 19th centuries and one of the most popular summer resorts on the east coast in the 20th century. Late September is a wonderful time of year to visit the island. The mood following the island's busy summer season is relaxed and its natural beauty takes center stage. Come enjoy the island in all its splendor!
There will be aid stations along the course for the run segment. In addition, we will provide support from partners of local boating and emergency medical organizations.
Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) technology has been used to measure our courses, ensuring distance accuracy and compensation for natural changes in the terrain.
